Discover your MPA: Paddle Musquash!

Participate in the 8th Annual Musquash Paddle! Join Baykeeper David Thompson for a canoe, kayak or rowboat ride through the Musquash Estuary on Saturday, July 22nd.  The Fundy Baykeeper's campaign to have this estuary declared a Marine Protected Area is on the verge of success, with final publication of the MPA regulation in the Canada Gazette expected shortly.  The Musquash Paddle is your opportunity to see our very first MPA close up.

The paddle starts just above the Hwy 1 Bridge crossing at Musquash and ends at Black Beach near the mouth of Musquash Harbour. This fun event allows everyone to meander down the river and see the vast salt marshes, wildlife, historic wrecks, and rugged harbour.

Registration is $20 for individuals and $40 for families (2 adults and all children). The registration includes the shuttle service between the launch and pull-out areas, a great barbeque at the trip's end, a Musquash poster and other perks.

Paddlers must pre-register by July 14th by email fundybaykeeper@conservationcouncil.ca or phone 529.8838.

Our goal is to be on the water paddling by 11:00 am rain or shine! The trip takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

Details:

  • There will be a shuttle at Five Fathom Hole, about 2/3 of the distance down the estuary. People without seaworthy craft haul out there, along with others who wish to take the shuttle to the barbeque site at Black Beach or back to the cars. All other paddlers can proceed through Musquash Harbour to Black Beach, weather permitting.
  • All paddlers must wear life jackets. Bring your own.
  • No motorized boats allowed!
  • Dress for changeable weather and bring sunscreen, a hat, water, and an en route snack.
  • For those with no boat, call Eastern Outdoors at 506.634.1530. They will rent and deliver kayaks or canoes, with life jackets, to the launch site at Musquash and pick up at Black Beach.  Cost: $35 per boat
