BAYKEEPER LOG
14:June 2006

WE'RE BACK! After receiving a little pre-season TLC, the Baykeeper boat is back on the water! She officially launched May 27th at the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, in Saint John. The boat is set to sail out of the Yacht Club for about a month, then we will trailer it to St. Andrews at the beginning of July, where she will tie up for most of the summer. In late August it’s back to Saint John. We will keep you posted on the actual date and time.

BECOME A BAY OF FUNDY STEWARD. See something happening on the shore or water between St. Martin's and the border that you think isn't quite right? Write down all the details, take a picture or video (so there is a visual record of the incident) and then phone the Baykeeper Hotline:  506-650-5849 to report it. Dave will intervene in whatever way is best for the situation.

To find out more about becoming a Bay of Fundy Steward e-mail us at fundybaykeeper@conservationcouncil.ca or call our office at 506-529-8838.

NO LNG IN PASSAMAQUODDY BAY! There are three proposals to build LNG terminals on the Maine side of Passamaqauoddy Bay. The Fundy Baykeeper has been working with Canadians, Americans and Passamaquoddy people to oppose such industrial development in this spectacular area. For more on the issue and the campaign, click here.

BOAR'S HEAD DEVELOPMENT. Baykeeper David Thompson met with Hon. Bev Harrison, NB Supply and Services Minister, and Hon. Trevor Holder, Minister of Environment, last month to discuss the potential sale of land at Boar’s Head in Millidgeville, Saint John.  Our message to them:  Keep Boar’s Head in public hands and protect it as critical undeveloped land in this urban, industrialized landscape. NATURAL GAS EXPORT PIPELINE.
Fundy Baykeeper has been working with Friends of Rockwood Park and other groups in Saint John to oppose the construction of a natural gas export pipeline through the city’s largest green space, Rockwood Park. This pipeline would connect the Irving/Repsol liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and regasification plant with US markets. MARK YOUR CALENDARS. Participate in the 8th annual Musquash Paddle! Join Baykeeper David Thompson for a canoe, kayak or rowboat ride through the Musquash Estuary on Saturday, July 22nd.  The Fundy Baykeeper's campaign to have this estuary declared a Marine Protected Area is on the verge of success, with final publication of the MPA regulation in the Canada Gazette expected shortly.  The Musquash Paddle is your opportunity to  see our very first MPA close up. Details of the paddle...
