Fundy Baykeeper on the Water for the Third Year

David
Thompson, the Conservation Council’s Fundy Baykeeper, has launched his third
patrol season between Saint John and Passamaquoddy Bay. The boat is
currently sailing out of St.
Andrews harbour, after
spending a few weeks in the Saint John area.
In the Passamaquoddy region, David will continue his efforts to have
abandoned aquaculture gear and equipment removed from beaches and
shorelines and to stop the illegal use of beaches by industry. David is
also involved in the campaign to prevent the proposed LNG terminal near
Eastport and is investigating the environmental controls of the Bayside
Quarry.
In the Saint John area, the Baykeeper’s primary campaign is to save
Boar’s Head at the confluence of the St. John and Kennebecasis rivers
from development. David is also pushing for enforcement of
coastal development regulations along Kennebecasis Bay and monitoring
the progress on sewage treatment for the city.
You will receive regular updates on these and other issues throughout
the summer. Also check the website for more info:

Fundy Baykeeper has a New Home

On June 1, Fundy Baykeeper joined three other groups to set up shop in
Clarke House, a heritage building owned by the St. Andrews Civic
Trust. Calling it the Clarke House Resource Centre, it is an
exciting new collaboration among non-profit organizations involved in
protecting our natural, social and cultural heritage. Join us for
our Open House (see below) to celebrate this new endeavour.

Welcome to our Summer Staff
Fundy Baykeeper is very pleased to introduce two summer staffers who
are crewing the boat, managing the website, researching nitrogen
pollution and taking Fundy Baykeeper out to the public. Becky
Burns, a recent graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, is with us for a 3-month internship. As well as TD
MacDonald, who just graduated from Sir James Dunn Academy and is going
on to study science at Waterloo in the fall. What a great team we have
working for the Bay of Fundy!
