Cove Sand Beach
The Fundy Baykeeper
received complaints from inhabitants on Grand
Manan about aquaculture companies constructing cages on a public beach. The
beach, which is a favourite spot for tourists and locals alike, was
covered in black piping and vehicle tracks, preventing anyone but the
aquaculture companies from using it. After the Baykeeper pursued the
issue, the Department of Environment announced that it would require
aquaculture operations to get permits that will allow them to operate
under regulated conditions on a small section of beach.
